Jimiyke was last year’s head boy, appointed because of his team leadership skills and his diligence.
His route through childhood and education has been one of the most difficult imaginable. He was abducted as a child and made to fight during the war. The vast majority of the youngsters conscripted into the fighting forces never fully recover. They never allow themselves to overcome their own self-perception which has become so terribly darkened by what they have been made to do.
Jimyke is an amazing example of what is possible if you are resilient and courageous.
In March 2009, he very nearly died. With the help of a couple of the British volunteers out in Sierra Leone at the time, we got him a visa to the UK. He spent a fruitful 6 months regaining his health, playing an ambassadorial role talking to many of EducAid’s donors and picking up as much as he could in the ICT field.
He is now pursuing his ICT studies in the evenings and teaching ICT in the Lumley school. We are very proud of all he has achieved and wish him every success in the future.

Jimiyke also had an opportunity to participate in putting together materials for rafi.ki about blood or conflict diamonds. http://www.rafi.ki/site/
He also features quite regularly on the EducAid blog: http://educaidsierraleone.blogspot.com/2009/12/jimiyke-public-speaker.html
