So ....how did I end up here in Sierra Leone helping in an EducAid school? Well, I had wanted to go and help somewhere in the world when I retired, but searches of the net were not helpful.
Then Miriam barged her way into my life by coming to the school I was teaching in to talk to the pupils. When I heard that it cost just £120 to keep a child at school for a year, that decided it. That was where I could do some good and I’ve not looked back for one minute. Well.... maybe just a bit when my clothes are sticking to me and the sweat is running into my eyes!
If you have skills in education, consider volunteering for EducAid. You won’t regret it!
For more of an idea of what Pat was doing, have a look at her blog.
Pat came out to Sierra Leone for her first trip in November 2009 for nine weeks. Her experience of work with dyslexia as well as her science skills have been put to good use.
She has been tireless working with the Women’s Project and the Science department.
We were delighted when she confirmed her return in June / July 2010 and again in September to support the starting of the new senior secondary school in Rolal.
