Technology

We leverage technology to improve learning outcomes and close the digital divide

Closing the digital divide is not just about technology — it’s about unlocking Africa’s full potential and ensuring its youth can lead in the global digital economy.

By leveraging technology, Sierra Leone can overcome educational challenges, equip its youth with future-ready skills, and unlock new economic opportunities. Bridging the digital divide is about empowering the next generation for long-term national and global development.

EducAid is pioneering digital learning experiences that enable some of the most underserved students to collaborate, explore subjects dynamically, and build the skills they need for the future. Our programmes equip both teachers and students with the knowledge and tools to integrate technology effectively, using it for learning so young people are prepared to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

The "Pikin Tab" programme is aligned with the Sierra Leone Government’s commitment to improving the foundational literacy and numeracy skills of all primary school learners. The tablet programme will serve 130,000 students across 530 public primary schools by the end of 2025

The programme uses a tablet-based, adaptive learning software that supplements teacher instruction within the national curriculum and timetable. Each child uses a tablet for 30-60 minutes per day, receiving personalized lessons in reading, writing, and math. Tablets can be rotated among up to five students per day. Tablets are designed to function without internet connectivity and are solar-powered.

The tablet programme is coordinated and supported by a coalition of partners including the Ministry of Basic and Secondary School Education (MBSSE), Imagine Worldwide (IW), software partner onebillion , EducAid, Rising Academy Network, ActionAid, and SEND.
